San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk Faces Uncertain Future With Team

2 hours ago 0

The tension between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has been a topic of interest for nearly a year. General manager John Lynch previously stated it is “safe to say” Aiyuk’s tenure with the team is concluding, and teammate George Kittle has expressed his own feelings on the situation.

The discord began when the 49ers voided the remaining guaranteed money on Aiyuk’s contract after he failed to participate in rehabilitation sessions. These sessions were crucial for recovering from a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus he suffered in his right knee during the 2024 season. Aiyuk has yet to return to the field.

Despite efforts by the 49ers to find a suitable trade partner, no deals have been made. George Kittle commented on the matter, wishing Aiyuk good fortune with whichever team he may join.

“I used to make it a habit of mine to go out early in the morning before meetings to watch him train because he’d always be out there early, and I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and watched him stop on a dime. He’s still got it, but that was eight months ago, so I don’t really know. You guys have fun with that, I guess,” Kittle shared on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast.

Rumors have been circulating that Aiyuk may be a good fit for the Washington Commanders. Recently, Aiyuk showed support for the team by mentioning them in an Instagram Story with an enthusiastic chant.

Earlier this month, Aiyuk began openly expressing his frustrations with the 49ers. He referred to the organization as “dumb” and “stupid” for extending his contract. He believes the team is hesitant to release him due to the potential impact he could have elsewhere.

Since December, the 49ers have placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list after his absence from the team facility. Prior to his injury in 2024, Aiyuk had 24 catches for 374 yards that season. His breakout year in 2023 included 75 receptions, 1,342 yards, and seven touchdowns, contributing significantly to the 49ers’ Super Bowl run.
