Bill Gates Discusses Potential Blackmail by Jeffrey Epstein

Billionaire Bill Gates appeared before the House Oversight Committee this month, expressing a belief that Jeffrey Epstein may have considered blackmailing him over extramarital affairs. This information comes from a transcript of Gates’ interview, released on Tuesday.

During the session on June 10, Gates told lawmakers, “He never blackmailed me, but looking at these emails, it raises a serious probability that he contemplated blackmailing me.” This was part of an investigation into the late convicted sex offender.

In February, Gates admitted to affairs with members of his foundation and described spending time with Epstein as a “huge mistake.” During a town hall with staff, Gates apologized for his connection to Epstein following the release of emails between them. He clarified, “I did nothing illicit. I said nothing illicit.”

Gates also mentioned to the committee that he was aware of Epstein’s criminal conviction related to sexual offenses when they met. He acknowledged, “I probably should have” looked into the specifics of the conviction. Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to state charges in Florida, resulting in his registration as a sex offender. Gates met Epstein in 2011, and they had several interactions, including email exchanges.

Gates, who is not accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein, informed lawmakers that Epstein never introduced him to young women. After his testimony, Gates stated, “I appreciated the opportunity to meet with the House Oversight Committee today and to answer all of their questions.” He added, “I support the release of all the files and hope my participation contributes to getting justice for the victims.”

The committee also released the transcript of its June 9 interview with Lesley Groff, Epstein’s longtime secretary. Groff stated that she did not witness any illegal activities during her 18 years working for him.
