Attorneys Join Karmelo Anthony’s Appeal

2 hours ago 0

Attorneys have joined the pro bono legal team for Karmelo Anthony, aiming to appeal his murder conviction. Horace Cooper, co-chair of Project 21, has voiced concerns about the potential racial tensions this appeal could cause. He also questions the idea that justice was mishandled in the trial. Cooper stressed that the appellate court will focus on legal procedures rather than new evidence.

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith remains firm on his opinion regarding Karmelo Anthony’s verdict. Through his podcast, “Straight Shooter,” Smith has addressed supporters of Anthony directly, asking why they continue to contest the trial outcome.

A recent episode of “Straight Shooter” featured Smith stating, “Karmelo Anthony murdered Austin Metcalf.” Anthony was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison after the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track event in Texas last year.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, spoke with Fox News Digital about the trial. Smith emphasized that Anthony’s self-defense claim was unconvincing to the jury.

Authorities presented evidence including a folding pocketknife used in the crime. Fox News Digital reported Smith saying, “Karmelo Anthony murdered Austin Metcalf. There is no other way to slice it.” Smith urged audiences to think critically.

On the other hand, Dominique Alexander, an activist and founder of the Next Generation Action Network, launched an initiative called “Stand with the Anthony Family.” Alexander encouraged access to accurate information and meaningful engagement. He highlighted the importance of staying connected to the movement and resisting misinformation.

Smith used the recent surge of shootings in Chicago as an example of unaddressed issues. He questioned why similar efforts are not seen for these incidents.

Fox News has yet to receive comments from Smith or Alexander, who represents the Anthony family.
