A video circulating on social media features Katie Barr, a congressional candidate in North Carolina, candidly declaring herself a ‘progressive’ despite running in the Republican primary. This revelation was made during a podcast titled “The Hometown Holler.”
During the podcast, Barr was questioned about her motives, with the host asking, “Are you trying to trick people?” Barr replied openly, stating, “If you visit the campaign website, prominently displayed is the message, ‘I’m not a real Republican.’ I am straightforward with people when I knock on a door: ‘I am running in the Republican primary, but I am not a Republican; I am a progressive.'” She further elaborated that she can no longer align with the Democratic Party.
Barr emphasized that she is not trying to deceive anyone, instead insisting she is being completely honest about her intentions and plans if elected. She stated, “I’m not attempting to pull a fast one; I’m laying my cards on the table about what I would do if I win.”
Barr, a progressive candidate for the U.S. House in North Carolina, was further queried on her decision to enter the Republican primary during her appearance on the show. On November 6, Barr officially filed documents to challenge the current representative of North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District, Rep. Tim Moore.
In an explanation on her campaign website, Barr details her decision to run as a Republican, citing the need to disrupt the entrenched power structures. She accuses Republicans of manipulating district boundaries to guarantee their electoral success, asserting, “The general election outcome is predetermined. Therefore, the primary is the real battleground for this position.”
Despite facing online criticism for her strategic approach, Barr maintains her transparency about her candidacy. She issued a statement to Fox News Digital, underscoring her consistent honesty about her political identity and governance plans from the beginning.
Barr openly criticized her rival, Rep. Tim Moore, claiming, “Tim Moore is detrimental to the voters of District 14. He’s using his office to enrich himself while his constituents face hardships. He has manipulated the district to maintain his grip on power. That’s unjust. I’m running to give voters a genuine choice.”
While some online detractors have labeled Barr’s strategy as misleading and disgraceful, others, including some conservatives, argue it’s not as scandalous as portrayed. Cam Edwards, a Second Amendment advocate, expressed this view on social media, writing, “I hate to burst the outrage bubble, but she’s not keeping this a secret. It’s right there on her campaign website. It’s her whole approach.”
