MJF Wins AEW World Championship for the Third Time

2 weeks ago 0

Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) stepped into the spotlight at the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Double or Nothing event in New York City. With determination, MJF aimed for a third AEW world championship, facing Darby Allin, the competitor who had taken the title from him previously.

The event gained additional attention with the arrival of wrestling legend Mick Foley, who had critical words for MJF even before the matches began. Responding fiercely, MJF aimed a kick not only at Foley but also metaphorically at the fans cheering for Allin to maintain his title.

Despite the gloomy Memorial Day weekend weather, fans eagerly watched the intense battle between MJF and Allin unfold. In the opening moments, MJF narrowly avoided a suicide dive by Allin, which resulted in Allin crashing onto the announce table.

The match escalated when MJF executed an apron powerbomb, followed by preparation for a package piledriver using steel steps. The move elicited audience groans but significantly impacted both competitors. As fatigue set in, they faced each other across the ring, respecting each other’s resilience.

Trying to seize the advantage, MJF transported Allin onto the ramp in hopes of ending the fight and keeping his hair. However, Allin countered him, hindering MJF’s attempts with swift action.

Encouraged by ring announcer Justin Roberts, who called him “bat s— crazy,” Allin climbed high to the scaffolding. Honoring Foley with a signature “bang, bang,” Allin descended dramatically, crashing into MJF and a table, creating an unforgettable scene.

However, the move took a toll on Allin. With a bleeding head, he endeavored to pin MJF after a Coffin Drop, but MJF kicked out. Subsequent attempts, including a Scorpion Death Lock, failed as Allin exhausted his strength.

Turning the tables, MJF countered another Coffin Drop and executed an avalanche Tombstone Piledriver, securing the pinfall. This victory marked MJF as a three-time AEW world champion at 30, joining the ranks of esteemed wrestling figures such as The Rock and John Cena.

Though victorious and with hair intact, the night did not end smoothly for Allin. As medical personnel were evacuating him on a stretcher, Kevin Knight emerged unexpectedly, delivering a UFO Splash, signaling a possible heel turn.

Knight is anticipated to provide explanations for his actions on the upcoming “Dynamite” episode.
