Texas Teen Survives Shark Attack Off Galveston Coast

1 week ago 0

A 17-year-old in Texas is in recovery after a shark attack while boating with his father during Memorial Day weekend. According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 3:15 p.m. on May 25, 2026. The U.S. Coast Guard received reports that the teenager was bitten by a shark near Galveston Island.

The attack occurred when the teen, his father, and another individual were boating approximately two hours offshore. Reports suggest the shark bit the teenager as he attempted to pull the creature onto their boat.

In response to his son’s injuries, the boy’s father applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding. They headed towards the Galveston Yacht Basin but faced further difficulties when their boat became disabled near the jetties in the Gulf.

This mechanical failure prompted an emergency response. Coast Guard crews provided a second tourniquet to manage the bleeding and transported the teenager to shore.

Once on land, the victim was conscious and quickly moved to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the severity of the injuries or identified the shark species involved.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard have yet to offer additional comments on the incident.
