On Friday, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed the arrest of a protester who made death threats against a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and his family during a demonstration in New Jersey.
The arrest followed a public statement by Blanche, who, during an appearance on Fox News’ ‘The Will Cain Show,’ assured that the individual would be located and detained. Blanche emphasized that threatening an ICE officer, as well as their family, constitutes a federal crime due to its severe nature. A video captured the protester declaring intentions to harm the officer and his family.
Conflict erupted between federal immigration officers and protesters outside Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. This clash occurred amidst ongoing protests outside the detention center, reaching six consecutive nights by Thursday. Federal agents responded with pepper spray to confront the aggressive demonstrators, with some protesters reportedly biting, kicking, and punching the officers.
Approximately 100 individuals protested near the detention center, chanting anti-ICE slogans and prepared with black umbrellas, gas masks, and other protective gear. During these chaotic events, nine individuals were arrested, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The protests began following an open letter from detainees claiming they faced insufficient food, inadequate medical care, and detention without due process. However, DHS dismissed these allegations.
