Last summer, Graham Platner’s campaign for Senate in Maine faced a serious issue. His wife, Amy Gertner, informed a senior campaign aide about his inappropriate messages to several other women. This information surfaced while his campaign to challenge Senator Susan Collins, a Republican, was gaining traction.
The situation was delicate, as women make up a significant portion of voters in Maine. The messages were confirmed by different campaign officials, though their accounts varied. Ms. Gertner stated that she and Platner, married since November 2023, were attending marriage counseling to address the issues.
Genevieve McDonald, who managed Platner’s political strategies before leaving the campaign in October, mentioned that Ms. Gertner reached out ahead of a major rally with Senator Bernie Sanders. She expressed concerns that her husband’s actions might harm his political standing. Ms. McDonald heard from Ms. Gertner that Platner had sent sexual messages to around a dozen women.
