Nvidia’s Expansion into AI-Driven Laptops and Desktops

5 days ago 0

Nvidia has emerged as the world’s most valuable company by selling artificial intelligence chips that power large data centers. Now, the company aims to bring this technology to households.

On Monday, Nvidia announced the development of a new chip called the RTX Spark. This chip will power laptops and desktop computers from manufacturers like Dell, HP, Microsoft, and Lenovo. These computers, expected to launch in the fall, are equipped to run local AI systems, enabling efficient file sorting and task performance with enhanced privacy and security.

Nvidia is the latest tech giant entering the race to update computers for the AI era. Previously, Microsoft and Qualcomm introduced the Copilot+ PC, aimed at simplifying tasks such as finding documents and editing photos. However, these products have struggled to gain widespread adoption.

With its expansion into laptops, Nvidia believes its products will align with the growing popularity of AI assistants, commonly referred to as agents. Nvidia has collaborated with Microsoft and various laptop manufacturers to enable these agents to autonomously operate a PC’s mouse and keyboard, mimicking user actions.

The announcement of the PC chip was the highlight of a two-hour presentation of Nvidia’s AI offerings at a computer and electronics conference in Taipei, Taiwan. Additionally, the company revealed a partnership with China’s Unitree Robotics to develop a new robot and introduced new software to assist customers in managing its chips in data centers.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, suggested that AI supercomputers might become as common in homes as appliances like home theaters, large televisions, lawn mowers, and dishwashers.
