The American Music Awards mark the unofficial beginning of summer with a grand celebration of musical excellence. The event promises exciting performances by artists including Billy Idol, Keith Urban, Teyana Taylor, among others. This year’s show is broadcast on CBS television stations and streamed live on Paramount+ starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Known as the world’s largest fan-voted awards ceremony, the AMAs engage fans by allowing them to cast their votes. While most categories have closed earlier this month, viewers are still able to vote online or via Instagram for the social song of the year and tour of the year during the first 30 minutes of the broadcast.
Queen Latifah returns as host, a familiar face to the AMAs since her co-hosting role in 1995 and various performances over the years.
Taylor Swift Dominates Nominations
Taylor Swift leads with eight AMA nominations following her album “The Life of a Showgirl.” This nomination includes album of the year and best pop album. Her songs “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Elizabeth Taylor” are also competing for various awards. Already a record-holder with 40 AMA wins, Swift is up for artist of the year and best female pop artist.
Artists Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, Sabrina Carpenter, and Sombr follow with seven nominations each.
Special Honors and Notable Performances
The show will feature Billy Idol receiving a lifetime achievement award. He will entertain the audience with a medley of his iconic songs. Keith Urban will delight fans with a song from his new yacht rock album “Flow State.” Teyana Taylor, after her Golden Globe win in January, will display her talent through a medley from her album “Escape Room.”
Groups like Hootie and the Blowfish, New Kids on the Block, and The Pussycat Dolls will also perform. The event will see a special appearance by K-pop icons BTS, making their award show comeback after fulfilling military service obligations.
