Armenia’s Political Shift: Embracing the West Amidst Russian Pressure

6 days ago 0

As Armenia moves closer to a national election, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is vocal about the country’s potential alignment with the European Union. He has also highlighted an endorsement from former U.S. President Donald Trump. This development comes amid increasing tensions in the South Caucasus, a region eyed by both Russia and the West for strategic control.

Armenia’s inclination towards the EU and the United States has led to severe economic reprisals from Moscow. Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin has subtly warned that Armenia might suffer a fate similar to that of Ukraine unless it shifts away from Western alliances.

The current political climate has garnered significant attention. Many citizens have expressed their views at campaign rallies for the Civil Contract party, led by Pashinyan, as witnessed in Yerevan recently.
