Arthur Gea’s Emergency Exit at French Open

1 week ago 0

French tennis player Arthur Gea left the court unexpectedly during his first-round match at the French Open. His urgent request for a bathroom break highlighted the seriousness of his situation.

Gea, who participated in Roland Garros with a wild-card entry, was trailing Karen Khachanov, a Russian tennis pro, 4-2 in the first set when he pleaded with the chair umpire.

I need to go to the bathroom. I can’t move anymore, Gea expressed his urgency.

This request was unusual as bathroom breaks are generally allowed only between sets. However, officials on Court Suzanne-Lenglen questioned if there was a medical reason for the break. Gea responded, saying he was dealing with diarrhea, a claim supported by a trainer who mentioned stomach issues.

Despite his pleas, play continued briefly before Gea rushed to the locker rooms. After the match, he shared that the umpire permitted the break due to medical circumstances. He received medication to ease his symptoms, having started feeling unwell only that morning.

Ultimately, Gea exited the tournament after a straight-sets loss to Khachanov.
