During Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night, a frightening incident occurred involving Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb. He was struck in the face by a puck, leading to his hospitalization.

McNabb was positioned directly in the path of an 87 mph slap shot by Carolina’s Nikolaj Ehlers during the first period. The impact was immediate, causing McNabb to drop his stick and retreat from the ice while clutching his nose.

According to the ESPN broadcast, McNabb left the arena early in the second period to receive medical attention at a nearby hospital.

Before this unfortunate incident, McNabb had achieved a personal milestone in Game 1, recording his first three-assist game in his NHL career. He is one of three players who have been part of the Golden Knights since the franchise’s inception nine years ago and is now in the finals for the third time.

“You lose a guy like Nabber who logs heavy minutes, such a good teammate, plays the game so hard, it’s tough,” commented team captain Mark Stone. “They battled as hard as they could.”

Defenseman Noah Hanifin shared his sentiments, adding, “Any time you see that happen to a teammate, especially to a guy like Nabber who is a huge part of this team, a leader, it’s tough. We’re just hoping for the best for him.”

Head coach John Tortorella did not have further updates regarding McNabb’s condition post-game.

The Golden Knights initially led 2-0 during the third period. However, they lost their advantage as the Carolina Hurricanes’ Seth Jarvis scored, tying the series before the teams head west for the next game.
