Democrats Criticize Deleted DNC Memorial Day Post

1 week ago 0

Several Democrats publicly criticized a Memorial Day political post made by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) that was later removed. Among them was Sen. Tammy Duckworth from Illinois, who expressed her disapproval, stating that using fallen heroes for political purposes on Memorial Day is inappropriate.

Sen. Duckworth, a decorated Army veteran, served as a helicopter pilot in the Iraq war. During her service, her Black Hawk helicopter was targeted with a grenade, leading to the loss of both her legs.

Rep. Jason Crow from Colorado, another Democrat and former Army Ranger, also condemned the DNC’s post. He emphasized the importance of maintaining moral integrity, especially on days that honor those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Crow stated, “I fought for our country and served with those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It’s wrong to politicize this day.”

The post, which circulated on social media platform X, referred to Memorial Day as an occasion to honor “American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Trump’s war with Iran.” Several images of fallen soldiers accompanied the message.

The message received strong disapproval from various quarters, including from Republican figures. Among the critics was Joe Gruters, Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), who also shared the DNC’s initial post on social media.

Sen. Rick Scott from Florida called out the DNC for their approach, accusing them of using the memory of fallen soldiers as “political props.” He urged the DNC to delete the post, labeling it “disgusting and unAmerican.”

The DNC later replaced the original post with a more conventional Memorial Day tribute, honoring those who sacrificed to protect the country’s freedoms.

In other developments related to the Democratic National Committee, the party faced criticism over a recently published report analyzing the 2024 election. New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg criticized the report for its lack of insight and substance, pointing out its omissions and questioning its credibility.

Goldberg’s critique noted the absence of key topics, such as “Israel” and “Gaza,” in the extensive document, questioning the effectiveness of the party’s analysis of voter demographics and engagement, particularly among Black and Latino communities.
