France had multiple decisive victories, with only one exception—a Round of 16 match against Paraguay. Across seven games, they conceded only four goals. However, a crucial mistake gave Spain the upper hand. In the 22nd minute, Lucas Digne’s foul led to a penalty kick, converted by Mikel Oyarzabal. Spain further solidified their lead with Pedro Porro’s goal, assisted by Dani Olmo.
France’s effort to recover was thwarted by Spain’s defense, culminating in Spain’s sixth shutout of the World Cup.
England also fell short of reaching the final, initially leading 1-0 against Argentina in the semifinal. Anthony Gordon’s goal, assisted by Harry Kane, appeared promising. However, Argentina mounted a comeback.
Argentina broke through in the 85th minute when Lionel Messi assisted Enzo Fernandez, who scored impressively against Jordan Pickford. Lautaro Martinez secured Argentina’s victory in stoppage time, assisted again by Messi.
England’s aspirations ended, but they still have a chance to secure bronze against France.
