1 day ago 0

A French off-duty policeman detained a man in Paris on Monday, following an alleged knife attack that injured three women. The incident took place in the Porte de Clichy area in the city’s north. The attack unfolded around 11:30 a.m. local time, leading to the hospitalization of the victims.

The three women, aged 19, 24, and 36, were taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries. Two of them were critically wounded. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that one woman suffered a wound in the lower back, and another was stabbed in the abdomen. It’s reported that one of the victims is pregnant.

The arrest was carried out by an off-duty officer who responded to the situation swiftly. Bystanders assisted, with one using a suitcase to knock the suspect to the ground, while another restrained him with a chair. The suspect made statements referencing Allah, but authorities have urged caution in presuming motives.

Nunez commented on the suspect’s incoherent statements and advised against premature assumptions about the reason behind this violent act. A video of the aftermath shows the suspect immobilized, with two knives visible at a pedestrian crossing.

The attack’s motive remains unclear, and authorities are deliberating on whether to initiate a terrorism investigation. This incident follows a recent event in Berlin, where an identified Islamic extremist used a minivan to attack a Pride parade, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.
