Heavy Rain Causes Roof Collapse in New Jersey Store

Monday’s heavy rains led to a partial roof collapse at a big box store in New Jersey. This incident temporarily trapped two individuals inside, as reported by authorities.

Emergency Response

Various first responders, including Ocean Township police and Monmouth Court Sheriff’s deputies, quickly arrived on the scene. They responded to the BJ’s Wholesale Club at around 11:16 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

At the time of the ceiling collapse, 27 people were inside the store. Fortunately, the two individuals trapped managed to free themselves and exited safely, the sheriff confirmed.

Severe Weather Impact

Videos captured significant flooding inside the BJ’s Wholesale Store located in Oakhurst, NJ. Sheriff Shaun Golden commented on the unpredictable nature of severe weather, stating, “This incident is another reminder of how quickly severe weather can create dangerous and unpredictable conditions.”

He praised the quick and effective response from all first responders, who worked diligently under tough circumstances, ensuring everyone was accounted for safely. “Their dedication and teamwork exemplify the very best of public safety,” he said.

Weather and Ongoing Developments

No injuries were reported immediately following the incident. By Monday early afternoon, the region had experienced over 2 inches of rain, particularly affecting South Jersey, located roughly 75 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
