During a visit to Nogales, Arizona, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem strongly criticized the Democratic Party’s border policies, asserting that these policies are reimagining “compassion” in a way that leaves American communities grappling with crime and disorder. Standing beside the southern border wall, Noem delved into the implications of immigration policies introduced during President Biden’s administration in terms of the nation’s safety and security.
The Democrats on the left say that compassion was that invasion, was that humanitarian crisis,” Noem said. “But President [Donald] Trump says that compassion is taking care of people. Was it compassionate to make Americans share their communities with criminals? Was it compassionate to encourage men and women and children to break the law and to put their lives at risk, knowing that they could be victimized along the way?
Secretary Noem’s statements come in the wake of civil disturbances tied to anti-immigration enforcement, events triggered by the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis by federal agents. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey argue that the administration has overstepped constitutional rights, especially concerning minorities, and they have voiced demands for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to steer clear of their state.
In addition, Noem commented on the increasing hostility towards federal immigration enforcement officers, questioning the Democrats’ version of compassion. She posed the question:Was it compassionate to demonize those federal law enforcement officers that took an oath to uphold the law and to keep Americans safe?
Noem further criticized the continual threats and harassment faced by officers from the Department of Homeland Security, stressing that enforcing immigration laws is critical for public safety. She stated that the election of President Trump was a vote to restore law and order in the nation.
When they elected President Trump, they chose differently,” she said. “They chose someone who recognized that a country with no border is no country at all. A country that doesn’t enforce its laws is a lawless country.
Noem expressed her belief that American citizens rejected the chaos seen under the Biden administration in favor of a return to law and order.
We’ve got a promise of a bright future and a promise of an amazing country for years to come. You have stood up, and stood on the line, to make sure that we have freedom and liberty for our children and our grandchildren for years to come,
she concluded.
