The first suspect is described as a Black male between 5’3” and 5’5” wearing dark clothing and a light gray camouflage-style facemask. He was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect stands approximately 5’8”, with braids, and wore a distinctive light gray “KONFUSED” hooded sweatshirt. This sweatshirt features a design with three skulls and crossbones, each adorned with a bejeweled halo.

Before the fatal encounter, Schmidt was on his way home after watching the NBA Finals. Surveillance footage reportedly captured his voice saying, “Give me my phone” while pursuing the suspects. A phone appeared to be tossed aside, followed by a gunshot.

Schmidt, a senior at Penn State World Campus studying journalism, was due to graduate in December. His father, Bill Schmidt, recounted finding his son’s phone at the crime scene and contacting authorities. Investigators are currently examining the phone for DNA evidence.

His sister, Anna Schmidt, expressed a strong desire for justice, stating, “I hope they find these animals and put them in cages for the rest of their lives.” She emphasized the family’s pain and condemned the senseless violence over a phone.

The Philadelphia Police Department urges anyone with information to call 215-686-3334/3335. A reward of $20,000 is offered for details leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
