President Trump Delivers Commencement Address at U.S. Coast Guard Academy

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump addressed graduates at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, praising their heroism and selflessness. He advised that their military careers would pose further tests. Trump’s speech marked his first commencement address at a military academy since initiating a new war. He described the cadets as America’s “first defenders” and “first responders.”

Addressing the ongoing war with Iran, Trump remarked on its progress, stating the U.S. had success in confronting “the hottest country anywhere in the world.” He questioned if it was time to conclude military actions or if Iran would agree to negotiations. Trump had previously threatened renewed strikes on Iran due to stalled negotiations and unstable ceasefire. However, he extended the negotiation period, citing ongoing serious talks, though details remain undisclosed.

Before the ceremony, attendees faced high temperatures and limited shade, resulting in a medical emergency for one individual who fainted. The distribution of chilled water bottles offered some relief, although they quickly warmed.

Trump expressed pride in being the first president to offer two commencement speeches at the academy, considering a third attempt to maintain this record. He described the current time as one of resurgence in U.S. national strength and morale. Emphasizing America’s robust position, Trump departed from the traditional nonpolitical nature of such speeches by critiquing past leaders and promoting his policies on tariffs and immigration.

Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to deliver the commencement speech at the U.S. Air Force Academy on May 28, continuing the tradition of yearly addresses by top officials at military service academies.
