President Trump’s Approval Rating Hits New Low

2 weeks ago 0

Over recent years, discussions often highlighted the belief that President Trump’s support had limited potential for growth, but maintained substantial unwavering support. However, the latest New York Times/Siena College poll puts his steady support to the test.

According to this morning’s results, only 37% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance. This marks a drop of four percentage points since January, reaching his lowest approval in any Times/Siena survey conducted across his terms.

Although a four-point drop might not seem drastic, it places Trump in an unprecedented political position. In the past 17 years, no president has maintained an approval rating under 38% for an extended period. If there was a base level of unwavering support, Trump’s current ratings have now approached it.

The ongoing conflict in Iran and rising gas prices could further impact his support, although it’s too early to predict definitively. Currently, only 28% of voters approve of how he is handling the cost of living, and a mere 31% are positive about his approach to the war. Additionally, just 30% believe his decision to attack Iran was justified.

As a result, Democrats seem to be better positioned for the upcoming midterm elections in November. The poll reveals a double-digit advantage for Democrats, with 50% of registered voters supporting their congressional candidates compared to 39% for Republicans. This represents a notable increase from previous Times/Siena polls, which showed Democrats with a two- to five-point lead.
