Protests and Tensions Outside Delaney Hall Detention Facility

5 days ago 0

Demonstrators outside the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, organized a complex logistical operation ahead of protests on Saturday. Supplies like masks, duct tape, medical gear, sunscreen, hard hats, goggles, and other protective equipment were strategically placed in containers and on tables near the protest site.

Participants wore masks, respirators, and helmets. When questioned by Fox News Digital about the precautions and gear, a group did not provide a response. A video recorded a protester attempting to seize the phone used to document the scene.

A crowd of approximately 200 anti-ICE demonstrators, many from far-left and socialist groups, gathered at the site. Supporters of ICE, including members identifying as Proud Boys, were also present. The tension at Delaney Hall escalated after detainees penned a letter alleging mistreatment, including claims of denied medical care and insufficient food. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) refuted these claims by releasing the facility’s menus showing meals such as chicken fajitas and Salisbury steak.

After incidents where federal agents were assaulted earlier in the week, Governor Mikie Sherrill tasked the New Jersey State Police with maintaining security to safeguard the protesters. State officials attributed most of the disturbances to external agitators, with State Attorney General Jennifer Davenport noting that five out of six arrests were of individuals from outside the state.

By Saturday morning, the detention center had become a secured area, barricaded by large orange plastic barriers and metal fencing.

Fox News Digital’s Alexandra Koch provided additional reporting.
