Sen. John Fetterman Criticizes Graham Platner Amid Senate Race Scandals

Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania expressed strong opinions about Graham Platner’s departure from the Maine U.S. Senate race. Platner exited the race following allegations of rape, which Fetterman described as a case of the “trash taking itself out.”

Fetterman commented on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” stating, “Now, people in Maine have the chance to vote for someone who is not seen as a problematic candidate.” He added that Platner would now only be remembered as the “accused rapist pushed out of the election.” He further criticized Platner for being unfaithful in his personal relationships and urged him to “go back under that rock that you came from.”

Platner announced his resignation from the race in an 11-minute video, denying the rape allegations made by a former partner, labeling them as “false.” Until this point, Platner has not faced criminal charges related to the allegations.

Throughout his campaign, Platner was dogged by accusations, including sexual misconduct, domestic abuse claims, and controversies surrounding a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol. The final blow came from Jenny Racicot, a Maine resident, who told CNN that Platner had forced her into a non-consensual sexual encounter at her home.

Fetterman criticized Democratic colleagues for supporting Platner, specifically addressing Sen. Bernie Sanders who had endorsed him. “What were Democrats seeing in this candidate? Was it the Nazi tattoo, offensive communications, or his treatment of women?” Fetterman questioned. He called for Sanders and other endorsers to apologize to the voters and donors affected by the controversies.

The race’s outcome is significant, as Republicans currently have a 53-47 majority in the Senate. Platner’s departure complicates the Democrats’ efforts to gain control of the Senate in a predominantly Democratic state like Maine.
