In Poplarville, Mississippi, a flooded driveway was reported on Monday, illustrating the impact of the recent weather conditions. The heavy rain forecast extends from the Carolinas to western Texas. In southwest Texas, including Midland and Fort Stockton, there may be large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. Over the weekend, pictures and videos depicted significant flooding in Mississippi and submerged vehicles in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
New Orleans has a flood watch in effect until 7 p.m. local time on Tuesday. Showers and storms are expected to continue through the evening with up to an inch of rain, possibly reaching 2 inches in some locations. The Dallas-Fort Worth area experienced relentless thunderstorms on Memorial Day.
Atlanta is also under a flood watch until 11 p.m. local time on Tuesday. Rainfall between 0.75 inches and 1.25 inches is likely, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 2 inches. Both New Orleans and Atlanta might experience hourly rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches, posing a risk of flash flooding even in areas not officially under flood watch.
More precipitation is anticipated throughout the week, but the exact amounts have yet to be determined.
