Stampede in Atlantic Beach Results in 19 Injuries

At least 19 individuals sustained injuries following a stampede early Sunday morning in Atlantic Beach, South Carolina. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a ‘stage area’ close to South Ocean Boulevard at approximately 1:05 a.m. They located the injured with help from local law enforcement.

Although officials did not specify the event, the Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival was in progress in the area over Memorial Day weekend, as per the Town of Atlantic Beach.

Rescue crews from Horry County Fire headed to the site of the incident, responding to reports of a stampede near South Ocean Boulevard.

Three people required hospitalization for further treatment. Others are thought to have sought medical attention on their own. All injuries are considered non-life-threatening, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Authorities have not released details on what caused the stampede. The Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival is known to attract up to 40,000 visitors during Memorial Day weekend, according to town officials.
