Incident Details

On Wednesday morning, New Mexico State Police responded to a home on 306 Hanlon Avenue in Mountainair following an alert about a possible overdose involving an unknown substance. Officers alongside Torrance County Sheriff’s deputies discovered four unresponsive individuals indoors. Three people were later pronounced dead. NMSP highlighted that the 18 emergency personnel affected by exposure are under medical care and reiterated there was no threat to the broader public.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue’s HazMat teams are aiding in the identification of the involved substance. According to the investigators, the substance appears to spread through contact rather than air.
