Thomas and Alito Dissent as Supreme Court Blocks Florida from Suing California

1 week ago 0

Justice Clarence Thomas, backed by Justice Samuel Alito, expressed dissent towards the Supreme Court’s decision. The Court chose not to hear Florida’s lawsuit against California regarding the issuance of commercial truck driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.

Florida initiated the lawsuit after an accident involving a truck driven by Harjinder Singh garnered national attention. The crash resulted in three deaths. Florida claimed that Singh was in the U.S. without legal status and alleged he was incorrectly issued licenses in both California and Washington. Criminal charges are also pending against the driver.

Thomas emphasized his opposing view, stating, “This Court declines to even hear Florida’s claims, even though it has nowhere else to bring them. Because I would allow Florida to file its complaint, I respectfully dissent.” His statement accompanied the Court’s order list released on Sunday.

Further developments are expected as this story unfolds.
