2 weeks ago 0

Testimony on Epstein’s Death

Tova Noel, a former prison guard, will testify before the House Oversight Committee in a closed-door session. Noel worked at the correctional facility where Jeffrey Epstein was found dead.

Noel and another guard were on duty on August 9, 2019, the night before Epstein’s death. She has stated to investigators that she believes she was the last person to see him alive. The medical examiner ruled Epstein’s death a suicide. However, reports of errors by prison officials and discrepancies in security footage have raised questions and fueled speculation.

Committee Investigation

The committee is investigating the federal government’s handling of cases related to Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. Documents and emails released by the Department of Justice have mentioned many well-known individuals. Despite mention in these files, it doesn’t imply any wrongdoing. This release has led to resignations and demands for accountability.

Other figures who have testified include Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, billionaire Les Wexner, and Maxwell’s ex-boyfriend Ted Waitt.

Background on Tova Noel

Noel was a correctional officer at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. Before this, she was a patient administrative specialist in the U.S. Army, from which she was honorably discharged in 2014. She graduated from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2017 and joined the federal Bureau of Prisons in 2018.

Reasons for Noel’s Testimony

In 2019, Noel faced charges for falsifying inmate count records on Epstein’s final night. She had previously testified for the Department of Justice inspector general. Her testimony revealed that she believed she was the last to see Epstein alive and was present when his body was discovered.

Federal investigators accused Noel and her colleague, Michael Thomas, of falsifying log entries to show checks were completed on the night Epstein died. These checks were mandatory every 30 minutes in the Special Housing Unit where Epstein was held. Investigators found no checks were conducted overnight. Noel disputed this, claiming she completed many checks and performed tasks like restocking supplies and distributing meals.

Both guards were charged with sleeping and browsing the internet before Epstein was found. They avoided jail time by agreeing to a plea deal, community service, and cooperation with the investigation. Noel denied sleeping but admitted to using the internet without knowing if it was authorized.

Noel’s Interactions with Epstein

Noel reported her only interaction with Epstein on August 9 was routine. She had instructed him to wait in the shower cell until other inmates left and later assisted with his CPAP machine, which she noted was unusually permitted for Epstein due to policy exceptions.

The investigators inquired if she was told to monitor Epstein more closely due to his profile. Noel stated she received no such directive.
