Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, have announced the birth of their newborn son, Alec Neel Vance. The name, although classic, is now much less common than in previous decades. Current popular names sharply contrast with Alec’s trajectory. The SSA’s 2025 list of popular boys’ names includes Liam, Noah, and Oliver, while girls’ names feature Olivia and Charlotte. A survey by Nameberry in 2025 highlighted a shift in naming trends, as most parents now prefer names outside the top ten, choosing more distinctive options.

The Vances’ older children also have names outside the SSA’s top 1,000, with Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel remaining unique choices. Alec’s addition follows this pattern, fitting well alongside his siblings’ distinct names. The Vance family showcases a preference for names that stand apart from mainstream selections, such as Liam and Olivia, reflecting a broader trend in naming preferences.
