Water Refilling Begins at Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Amid Renovations

16 hours ago 0

In an announcement from the Oval Office, President Donald Trump revealed the commencement of water refilling at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. A video showed water flowing into the newly painted basin. The pool, located at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, is part of preparations for the United States’ 250th anniversary, set for June 4, 2026.

The basin bears a protective blue coating, described by Trump as ‘American flag blue.’ The water is expected to fill the pool by Sunday. A ‘promenade’ connecting the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River is also planned, with speculation about naming it the ‘Trump Promenade.’ Despite estimated costs between $1.5 million and $2 million, records indicate that $14.8 million in contracts have been issued for the project.

Originally built in the 1920s and holding about 6.5 million gallons of water, the pool now draws water from the Tidal Basin following a 2012 renovation. This reengineering aimed to avoid using the city’s drinking water. Critics have raised concerns about Trump’s focus on infrastructural projects over pressing issues like the cost of living.

The Cultural Landscape Foundation filed a lawsuit regarding the ‘dark grey’ paint, suggesting it gives a theme park appearance. The ongoing work process, ahead of the United States 250th anniversary, remains unhalted despite legal challenges.
