Reports came from correspondents who heard multiple shots near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. An armed Secret Service agent responded at the White House in Washington, DC, after these reported incidents.

The U.S. Secret Service instructed reporters to “get down” before ushering them into the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room in the West Wing. Agents were visible on the grounds with their weapons drawn.
