An 86-year-old woman from West Virginia, known as the ‘Taco Bell Queen,’ fulfilled her longtime wish when a Taco Bell opened in her hometown of Sissonville. Pauline Ferrell Monk had long desired a Taco Bell in her area and was thrilled when her son informed her that the restaurant would finally be opening. Her son played a key role in bringing Taco Bell to their town.
Despite the joyous news, Monk also faced some challenging times. During the same period, she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, which doctors indicated left her with limited time. As construction on the Taco Bell progressed, Monk wondered if she would see its grand opening. She questioned if she would live long enough to celebrate this event, given her diagnosis.
Fortunately, Monk did witness the Taco Bell’s opening. On that day, she received special recognition and was brought in early to celebrate. Her son was set to cut the ribbon, and he brought Monk along to share in the moment. This event turned Monk into a local legend, earning her widespread attention as people began calling her the ‘queen of Taco Bell.’
Monk enjoys ordering Nachos BellGrande or a chicken quesadilla when visiting Taco Bell and has a penchant for cinnamon twists. While the Taco Bell story has drawn attention, Monk’s life extends beyond fast food. She grew up with seven siblings in a small town, constantly giving back to her community. For many years, she baked pies for members of her church and community, spreading joy through her generosity.
As her health declines, Monk feels the kindness she extended being returned. Her church community and friends have been supportive, offering her food and care. Her husband has remained a steadfast caregiver during this time. Monk attributes her peace to her faith, saying she is ready for whatever the future holds.
Despite doctors advising against chemotherapy due to her age, Monk continues to feel grateful and spreads positivity. Her story of resilience and fulfillment of a simple dream has touched many, bolstering her faith and gratitude for the support received from loved ones and strangers alike.
