At least one individual has died and others have sustained injuries during a shooting incident in downtown Midland, Texas. According to Midland Mayor Lori Blong, the suspect has barricaded inside a building.
Mayor Blong revealed in a Friday press conference that 11 people were affected in total. Authorities have set up a perimeter and are advising residents to steer clear of the area. The exact location of the incident remains unspecified.
The mayor mentioned that there are no confirmed details about the shooter, but the person is currently ‘contained.’
The FBI is involved, with agents from its Midland satellite office present at the scene, as confirmed by a source to Fox News Digital.
The incident commenced in southeast Midland and continued to south Midland. Police responded to the first dispatch at 8:03 a.m. local time.
Midland Memorial Hospital reported receiving nine victims, with four undergoing surgery while five are in stable condition. The hospital’s main campus went into lockdown for nearly two hours, and the emergency department maintains its lockdown status.
