4 days ago 0

A shooter who opened fire in the city of Midland, West Texas, died following a standoff with police. The incident resulted in one death and at least nine injuries, as confirmed by city officials.

The Midland police reported that the active shooter situation concluded hours after it began. The gunfire started in one part of the city and ended near a veterinary hospital. The exact cause of the suspect’s death was not immediately disclosed.

Mayor Lori Blong stated that robot and drone footage verified the shooter’s death. An eyewitness, Andrea Mendias, described hearing what seemed like a small explosion at a nearby closed veterinary clinic. This was adjacent to the body shop where she works. Heavily armed police officers quickly entered the parking lot, with some entering the building. Mendias mentioned earlier hearing what resembled at least 40 gunshots.

Video footage from Mendias depicted officers exiting an armored police vehicle and deploying robots in the area.

Midland Memorial Hospital reported that four individuals underwent surgery. Three patients were treated and released, while two others remained in stable condition.

Midland, with a population of about 140,000, sits within Texas’s oil-rich region. The city is also near the site of a 2019 shooting rampage. In that incident, a gunman dismissed from his oil services job claimed seven lives and wounded more than 20 others while randomly firing in the Odessa and Midland areas. These cities are located over 300 miles west of Dallas.
