Hillary Clinton Acknowledges Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

3 hours ago 0

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed unexpected approval for President Donald Trump’s approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict during a discussion in New York City. Clinton’s remarks came while she was speaking with The New Yorker’s David Remnick at 92NY. The conversation covered various topics, including the Israel-Iran tensions and former President Joe Biden’s re-election bid.

As the talk shifted to the Israel-Hamas conflict, Remnick questioned Clinton about her long-standing support for a two-state solution in the region. Remnick noted that this solution seems increasingly unlikely, given the current political climate among both Israelis and Palestinians. He asked Clinton if she believed the two-state concept still holds potential for achieving peace.

Clinton pondered the viability of the solution. She then surprisingly commended Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, describing it as offering security for Israel, reconstruction for Gaza, and self-determination for Palestinians. Clinton acknowledged that many people dismiss the plan due to its association with Trump, yet she implied it represents the sole option for progress.

She elaborated on the importance of implementing the plan fully. According to Clinton, starting with Hamas’s disarmament and encompassing all elements of the plan could offer a path to ending the ongoing conflict. Clinton emphasized the necessity of completing each of the 20 points for a potential resolution that extends beyond mere reconstruction efforts.

Trump’s plan, introduced late last year, includes provisions such as granting amnesty to Hamas members who disarm, transforming Gaza into a ‘terror-free zone,’ and stimulating commercial redevelopment. If both parties agree, the plan outlines a framework where military activities cease, allowing for staged withdrawals and peace-building steps.

US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff announced in January that the plan had moved to its second phase, focusing on transitioning from ceasefire to demilitarization, with an emphasis on governance and reconstruction. A Board of Peace was also established, chaired by Trump, to oversee the peace process and ensure progress.
