Jackson Lahmeyer Ends Campaign Amid Controversy

1 hour ago 0

Jackson Lahmeyer, a Republican seeking Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District seat, has suspended his campaign after alleged text messages became public just before the primary election. In a statement on social media, Lahmeyer announced he would withdraw from the race following discussions with his wife, Kendra, and his campaign team. Lahmeyer, a pastor from the Tulsa area and former Senate candidate, aimed to secure the Republican nomination in this contested race.

“I do not want to be a distraction to my family, my church, and the great people of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District,” Lahmeyer wrote, explaining his decision to pause the campaign. This announcement comes as former President Donald Trump rescinded his endorsement of Lahmeyer. Trump expressed appreciation for Lahmeyer’s efforts despite challenges, stating, “He has always been with me, and I will always be with him.”

The campaign suspension follows a texting scandal reported by the Daily Mail, which gained national prominence. The story highlighted alleged messages between Lahmeyer and a former Miss Oklahoma USA, prompting public debate over the pastor’s conduct. Lahmeyer responded, calling the media portrayal “distorted” and said he managed the issue privately with his wife. He admitted to “crossing a boundary line” via text and ceased all communications accordingly.

“The British Tabloid tried to paint me out in a way which is not the case. At the same time, we must ask the question if this story was paid for and why our communications were carefully cherry-picked to create an impression that is not accurate,” Lahmeyer stated on Facebook.

Initially, Trump endorsed Lahmeyer in early May, describing him as a “MAGA Warrior.” However, Trump has since shifted his support to State Representative Mark Tedford. On Tuesday, both Lahmeyer and Tedford proceeded to a runoff election, with Lahmeyer securing 25.9% of the vote and finishing second.

With Lahmeyer’s withdrawal, the race for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District continues without one of its prominent contenders.

This story remains in development as new information becomes available.
