Frank Stronach, founder of a major auto parts company, has been found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault in two cases. At 93, this marks a significant fall from grace for one of Canada’s wealthiest individuals.
Justice Anne Molloy of the Ontario Superior Court delivered the verdict in Toronto. Stronach was acquitted on three other charges involving two women. He had faced a total of 12 charges from seven complainants, with incidents dating back to the 1970s and 1990s.
Stronach’s company, Magna International, evolved from producing auto parts to assembling vehicles for prominent brands like Mercedes-Benz. During his leadership, Magna attempted to acquire Chrysler and Opel. Despite these business ventures, Stronach has a noted history of inappropriate remarks about women. In a 2007 meeting, he made comments comparing his attractiveness to that of his aide, Manfred Gingl.
The accusations against Stronach primarily come from women connected to Magna or other businesses he managed. Justice Malloy’s ruling concludes a significant legal battle involving his past actions.
