President Trump’s Coast Guard Commencement Speech

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald J. Trump delivered the commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. This marked his second time addressing graduates there as commander in chief.

Trump expressed excitement about his speech, claiming he was the first president to give a second keynote address at the Academy. However, previous presidents like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama also addressed the institution twice.

The president’s speech integrated humor and acknowledgment of the Coast Guard’s role. He addressed cadets dressed in formal attire but also took the opportunity to touch on topics like the Iran war.

During his address, the cadets reacted with a mix of responses. Some applauded, while others remained reserved. Trump echoed sentiments from his 2017 speech at the Academy where he urged cadets to persevere through challenges.

His return to the Academy demonstrated continuity in both location and themes addressed. This event highlighted the ongoing relationship between the presidency and the military service branches.
