Senator Booker Expresses Concerns Over Platner’s Candidacy

5 days ago 0

Senator Cory Booker shared his concerns on Sunday regarding Graham Platner’s run for a Senate seat in Maine. Platner, the likely Democratic nominee, has faced scrutiny due to revelations about exchanging inappropriate messages outside his marriage.

Booker was questioned on ABC’s “This Week” about whether Platner’s personal issues could negatively impact Democrats’ hopes to secure a key Senate position. Booker, representing New Jersey, replied, “Yeah, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer. And that’s what campaigns are for.”

He emphasized the importance of Democrats taking control of the Senate. Booker argued that a strong check on the current president was necessary, highlighting increased costs of health care, child care, and gas as issues.

Platner’s campaign, notable for its progressive stance in Maine, has gained momentum. However, concerns have risen due to Platner’s past controversial online statements about women and other issues, increasing Democratic apprehension about his election prospects.

This weekend, Booker and other Senate Democrats addressed reports concerning Platner’s wife informing his campaign about the messages with other women. Republican campaign officials have circulated this news, using it to critique Platner.

Among Democrats, Booker stood out for his candid expression of discomfort. The Platner campaign has not responded to Booker’s comments.

Senator Andy Kim of New Jersey mentioned on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he did not know Platner personally and was not focusing on the Maine race. “I will work with whoever the people of Maine elect,” he said, hoping for a candidate willing to challenge the president.
