As a young player, he displayed remarkable skill by reaching the third round of the U.S. Amateur at the age of 14. Jones went on to secure 13 major championships during his career, all as an amateur, a record that still stands.

In 2026, another young golfer, Miles Russell, emerged as a promising talent. At just 17 years old, he became the youngest player to compete in the U.S. Open. Making the cut at Shinnecock Hills was already an impressive feat for Russell and his family.

During the final round on Sunday, Russell added a special moment to the tournament. After hitting his approach shot on the 18th hole, his caddie approached the gallery, removed his caddie bib, and handed it along with Russell’s golf bag to his father, Joe.
