Christopher Jackson, one of the original members of the acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton,” will reprise his role as George Washington. Beginning September 8, Jackson will perform at the Richard Rodgers Theatre until January 3.

Jackson received a Tony Award nomination for his performance alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Alexander Hamilton. He expressed his desire to return by saying, “I wanted to touch the thing that I feel turned me into an artist.” His return follows that of Leslie Odom Jr., who reprised his role as Aaron Burr, again boosting the show’s box-office success.

Jackson acknowledged that reconnecting with fellow actors during the 10th anniversary events inspired his return. He noted, “There’s a feeling of being alive in a different kind of way in this show.” Prior to “Hamilton,” Jackson played roles in “The Lion King,” “In the Heights,” and “Memphis.” He also composed music for children’s television and had roles in shows like “Bull” and “And Just Like That.”

Despite leaving “Hamilton” in November 2016, Jackson has remained active in various projects. However, he admits, “But there’s nothing that I have done that has challenged me in the way that show does.” The Broadway production of “Hamilton,” winner of 11 Tony Awards, has achieved remarkable success with its cast album and tours.

Jackson cherishes the Richard Rodgers Theatre, calling it his “favorite building in New York.” He looks forward to creating new artistic moments. Many cast members who performed with Jackson were relatively unknown at the premiere, including Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, and Anthony Ramos.

Jackson’s return will feature performances of songs like “Right Hand Man” and “History Has Its Eyes on You.” He remarks on the practical perks of returning to the theater, including familiar pathways and facilities, saying, “I know how to get into the stage door… I know where to park.”
