The cross, situated in the middle of Grant Park, drew the attention of passersby on Columbus Drive. Keinika Carlton and her daughter, Alyna, expressed their disbelief upon witnessing the sight. Keinika remarked on the public nature of the incident, surprised more people weren’t present during the event.

The incident revived painful memories for Keinika, reminding her of historical racial tensions experienced by her ancestors in the South. Alyna echoed these sentiments, pointing out the slow progress in overcoming such societal issues, highlighting that such acts still occur openly.

The Chicago Police Department has remained discreet about the investigation’s details.
