Diane Carlson Evans, once an Army nurse, spent significant time championing the cause of military women. Sadly, she passed away due to a rare cancer related to Agent Orange, a harmful herbicide.
Evans’ most prominent achievement came with the unveiling of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in 1993. She devoted nearly a decade to this cause, despite believing it should take only two years. Her efforts included countless speeches, fundraising events, and grassroots campaigns.
Evans faced the challenge of persuading resistant bureaucrats. The public was initially skeptical and indifferent, which added to the obstacles she had to overcome.
