Falling Rock Causes Alarm in New England, Not Alien Invasion

6 days ago 0

Residents of the East Coast experienced startling loud noises this week, causing curiosity and concern.

A particularly loud boom in the Boston area on Saturday had many speculating about the cause, including theories ranging from alien invasions to nuclear attacks. However, NASA clarified that the noise resulted from a fireball.

The fireball, traveling at an impressive speed of 75,000 miles per hour, entered Earth’s atmosphere and ultimately fragmented 40 miles above the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire. NASA reported that the power released during this event was equivalent to 300 tons of TNT, explaining the intensity of the sounds heard.

This natural phenomenon is not part of any meteor shower, but it followed a similar event in South Carolina days earlier, where loud noises also puzzled residents. The source of the sounds in South Carolina remains unidentified.

One resident, Rich Sauro from Medfield, Massachusetts, experienced the boom while resting in his bedroom. Like many others, he initially felt baffled by the sudden and unfamiliar noise.
