Fulton County authorities in Georgia have taken legal action by filing a motion on Tuesday to retrieve 2020 election ballots and related documents confiscated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from a storage facility last week. The motion, which remains confidential, urges a federal court to mandate the return of approximately 656 boxes of original materials from the 2020 election.
According to a cover sheet attached to the warrant, the FBI agents were targeting items connected to the 2020 general election. These included all ballots, tabulator tapes from the machines used to tally votes, electronic ballot images generated during the counting and recounting processes, and comprehensive voter rolls.
This morning’s filing could not have come fast enough; justice delayed is justice denied, said Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington, whose jurisdiction covers the election’s headquarters. The people of Fulton County deserve justice now, and that’s why I pushed so hard to get this motion filed as soon as possible.
The motion also seeks to prevent the federal government from accessing, examining, or using the seized materials while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
The search conducted by the FBI occurred on January 28 at Fulton County’s principal election facility in Union City, near Atlanta. The investigation was centered around records related to the 2020 general election, according to reports from Fox Atlanta.
Fulton County, a largely Democratic region, has faced scrutiny after former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden. Although Biden won Georgia, Trump has asserted that widespread voter fraud contributed to his loss in the state.
County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts stated, The president himself and his allies refuse to accept the fact that they lost,
expressing that even with a win in Georgia, Trump would still have failed to secure the presidency. Pitts further defended the county’s electoral processes by noting that Fulton has conducted 17 elections since 2020 without any reported issues.
Pitts emphasized, This case is not only about Fulton County. This is about elections across Georgia and across the nation,
referencing comments by Trump made on a podcast urging Republicans to take over
and nationalize
elections. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt clarified that the president was speaking in the context of legislative initiatives.
Last month, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump called for legal action concerning the conduct of the 2020 election, stating, People will soon be prosecuted for what they did.
Fox News Digital has sought a response from the Justice Department, but the FBI has declined to provide any comments at this time.
