Iranian Tankers Bypass U.S. Blockade Ahead of Peace Deal

1 hour ago 0

Iranian tankers with millions of barrels of crude oil have successfully navigated past the U.S. blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This development comes just days before the anticipated unveiling of a U.S.-Iran peace agreement.

Tanker Details

The tankers, Diona and Hero 2, are both under U.S. sanctions. They transported approximately 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil. The shipping data website TankerTrackers confirmed their passage.

“At least two National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) VLCC supertankers named DIONA (9569695) and HERO2 (9362073) have exited the U.S. Navy blockade perimeter carrying a combined total of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil between them,” TankerTrackers announced.

Subsequently, TankerTrackers reported that a third tanker, a Suezmax type, also passed through the blockade carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil.

U.S. Response and Upcoming Peace Deal

In April, President Donald Trump initiated a naval blockade against Iran. This followed unsuccessful negotiations in Pakistan. The blockade aimed to compel Iran to reopen the Strait for international shipping and cease interference with maritime operations.

The U.S.-Iran peace deal is expected to be declared at a signing event at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland on Friday. Although the details remain undisclosed, Trump has asserted that the Strait will be fully accessible.

“I think a lot of great things are going to happen in the Middle East right now. And very importantly, the oil is plummeting down and the stock market is shooting up like a rocket today,” Trump stated during the G7 meeting in France.

“The main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. They fully agreed to that with strong policing powers, and they won’t have a nuclear weapon, which is what it was all about.”

This is an ongoing story, and further updates will be provided.
