Lincoln-Way West Triumphs with Mansker’s Heroics

6 days ago 0

Lincoln-Way West player Jackson Mansker showcased resilience in a remarkable regional final against Homewood-Flossmoor. The senior third baseman faced disappointment early on when his home run was snatched away by a stunning catch from Marcos Morales. Known for keeping a calm demeanor, Mansker’s rare display of frustration resulted in him injuring his hand.

Despite the rough start, Mansker bounced back impressively. In his next at-bat, he hit a decisive two-run homer, propelling his team toward a 6-2 victory. This achievement in the Class 4A Homewood-Flossmoor Regional championship marked Lincoln-Way West’s sixth regional title and their fourth in five years.

Contributing to the win, Carson Paulas added two hits and two RBIs. Pitcher Owen Chudzinski earned the win by delivering three scoreless innings in relief. The Warriors, second-seed, now advance to face Sandburg in an upcoming sectional semifinal.

Senior catcher Owen Weber also played a crucial role with his defensive skills. With the game tied at 2-2 and the bases loaded, he executed a key play by stopping a rally, ensuring a scoreless inning for the opposing team.

Mansker’s day at the plate was a mix of challenging moments and success. After his first hit, a double to center, he experienced the near home run later robbed by Morales. He found redemption with his homer in the fifth inning, prompting Homewood-Flossmoor to walk him intentionally in the sixth.

Mansker demonstrated adaptability by refining his stance. At the suggestion of assistant coach Jeff Struebing, he adjusted his position, lifting his left heel. The change helped him enhance his swing, with Struebing noting its impact on Mansker’s athletic ability.

Paulas, the team’s leadoff hitter, expressed confidence in Mansker’s ability to deliver. “When I’m on base, I trust he will drive me home,” Paulas shared. Mansker’s influence extends beyond baseball, as he plans to join Indianapolis as a safety for football.
