The California Highway Patrol (CHP) halted all northbound lanes of the 101 freeway near downtown Los Angeles in Boyle Heights on Thursday morning due to police activity. The closure began just north of 4th Street shortly before 9 a.m., leading to significant traffic congestion.
According to a CHP log, traffic was rerouted off 4th Street during an ongoing investigation. KTLA reported that an officer-involved shooting occurred on the freeway, resulting in one person being hospitalized. Official details about the incident and SigAlert remain scarce as CHP officials withheld comments, and a department spokesperson did not quickly address inquiries.
Footage from KTLA illustrated crime scene tape and multiple patrol cars at the location. The incident had traffic backed up for several miles.
The police response began around 7:30 a.m., and the SigAlert closing all northbound lanes was issued by 8:55 a.m., as stated in CHP logs.
