Police Canine Locates Missing Teen in North Carolina Snowstorm

In Gastonia, North Carolina, a police K-9 played a crucial role in locating a missing 13-year-old boy amid a snowstorm on Saturday night. The weather conditions made the search challenging, but with the help of the canine, emergency teams safely found the boy, who was unharmed despite the cold.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, the situation arose when a 13-year-old boy, who has special needs, ventured out on foot without appropriate clothing as the winter storm intensified. In response, K-9 Bo and his handler, Sgt. Rowland, were summoned to join the search effort. Several agencies coordinated to set up a search perimeter while K-9 Bo diligently tracked the boy’s scent through the snow-covered landscape.

Eventually, the boy wandered into the secured perimeter and was sighted by Gaston Emergency Medical Services. He was found cold but without any injuries.

This successful outcome was made possible by quick action, strong teamwork, and the dedication of everyone involved — especially a snowy snouted K-9 Bo who performed well in the midst of severe weather.

The police department expressed their gratitude for the determination and teamwork exhibited during the operation, praising K-9 Bo’s efforts despite the severe weather.

Meanwhile, FOX Weather reported that a historic nor’easter had sharply intensified off the North Carolina coast, bringing record snowfall across the Southeast along with near hurricane-force winds. In addition to snow accumulation, the storm brought significant wind gusts, reaching 70 mph in Nags Head, North Carolina, with 65 mph gusts common across the Outer Banks.

According to FOX Weather, the storm’s pressure dropped significantly within a 24-hour period, driven by the interaction of arctic air and warmer moist air from the Gulf, which led to its rapid intensification.
