A judge has ordered a 15-year-old to be held in juvenile detention following a gunfight at a Seattle food festival that resulted in the deaths of three people and left at least four others injured. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced that police are still investigating the details of the gunfight and the number of people involved. ‘At least two individuals exchanged gunfire outside the Seattle Center Armory,’ she stated. ‘One is in custody, and another is the deceased 19-year-old.’ Evidence includes video footage and bullet casings, which police are reviewing to piece together the events.

Legal Proceedings

Prosecutors have requested the detention of the 15-year-old on suspicion of three counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. King County Superior Court Judge Tanya Thorp authorized his detention. Casey McNerthney, spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, noted that the 15-year-old had no previous criminal record in the county.

The King County medical examiner identified the deceased as Junior Cee Niko Semo, 19, Ashley Whitehead, 56, and Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, 44. Four others were wounded but remain stable. Three victims, including a 2-year-old and an individual with a bicycle, were in the line of fire from the 15-year-old.

Witnesses initially mistook the gunfire for firecrackers. Footage posted on social media shows panic-stricken attendees fleeing the scene. Hana Kim, a food vendor, described the chaos and her efforts to ensure her family’s safety. Sheltering several people at her tent, she later helped evacuate them while neighboring vendors abandoned possessions at their stalls.

Kim, who traveled from New York to assist her family, suffered a knee injury while taking cover. Despite the shock, she and her relatives helped others reach safety. A woman later called to express gratitude for the protection Kim’s family provided, touching Kim deeply as she processed the traumatic events.
